Unmapped (“the App”) is an offline content app dedicated to China's lesser-known cultural places. We respect and protect your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the App, how we use and store it, and the choices available to you. The App requires no account and no sign-in, and does not collect your name, phone number, or email address.
1. Information we collect
- Install ID: When the App first launches, it generates a random install identifier locally to distinguish installations and to associate your content downloads and submissions. It does not contain — and cannot be used to derive — your real identity.
- Purchase receipt: The App is a paid app. We use the purchase credentials provided by Apple StoreKit (App Receipt / App Transaction) to confirm your purchase and, based on that, obtain a short-lived access token from our server. We do not collect your Apple ID, name, or payment-card information — all payments are handled by the Apple App Store.
- Push notification token (optional): Only if you agree to receive notifications does the system provide an APNs device token, which we use to notify you when new content becomes available. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device's Settings.
- Content you submit: When you use “Suggest a place” or “Report a place”, the place name, location, description, and (optional) contact details you enter are sent to our server for our editorial team to review, curate, and improve the content. This information is provided voluntarily; please do not include sensitive personal information you would not want us to know.
2. Information we do not collect
- Location: When you open the map on a place's page and tap “My location”, positioning is used only locally on your device to show where you are relative to the place and the route there; it is not uploaded to our server. You may decline location access without affecting other features.
- We do not access your contacts, photos, or microphone, and we do not use third-party advertising or behavioral-tracking SDKs, nor do we track you across apps.
3. How we use information
We use the above information only to: verify your purchase, deliver and update content, notify you when new content is available, and improve content quality based on user suggestions. We do not use this information for any purpose unrelated to the above.
4. Storage and sharing
The relevant data is stored on servers located within mainland China (Huawei Cloud). Except as necessary to provide the services above, or as expressly required by law, we do not sell, rent, or share your information with any third party. The App relies on services provided by Apple to complete purchase verification and notification delivery; the processing of related data is also subject to Apple's privacy policy.
5. Data security
Data is encrypted with HTTPS in transit, and the server applies reasonable measures such as access control to protect data security.
6. Your choices and rights
You can turn notifications off at any time in your device's Settings, and you may choose not to use the submission features. If you would like us to delete content you have submitted, or have any questions about this policy, please contact us at the email below.
7. Children
The App is intended for general culture enthusiasts. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Updates to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised “Last updated” date at the top. Continued use of the App constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
